On a sunny day in April of 1986
opened it’s doors for the very first time.

It was a small space on Eight ave in the theatre district. During the months prior to opening people would walk by and laugh.
What we didn’t realize was that in a short span of time every kind of Ethnic cuisine had tried to open in that very space and failed. We didn’t know what to expect.
Whether it was out of curiosity or a perverse sense of
humor, people showed up to sample what
had to offer. They would come in to giggle and shoot
sideways glances at each other. We loved watching their
expressions change upon tasting the food.
They would bite into fresh crispy tacos that were full of pure ground beef and layered with cheese and lettuce and topped with Pico de Gallo that was chopped by hand from morning until night.
Many regular customers who worked in the area begged us to bring our recipes uptown.
So after scouting around, we found a tiny spot on West 85th street right off Broadway.
We could do take-out and there would be just enough room for five stools and a counter top in the back. Almost twenty one years later, some would find it hard to believe that was is now a full scale restaurant & bar with downstairs party room for up to 150 people.
Now in 2007 you can sit and enjoy your meal at our outdoor café or step through the large wood framed doors.
